Prompt guidance
When a visitor agrees to subscribe, their browser shows its own permission prompt. That prompt is small and easy to miss, and some visitors never find the Allow button. Prompt guidance fixes that: while the browser's prompt is open, it dims your page slightly and shows a short "one more step" message with an arrow pointing at the prompt.
What visitors see
- A light overlay over your page.
- A small card with a title and message. By default: Almost there 🎉 and "Click Allow to start getting the latest updates — you can unsubscribe anytime."
- An animated arrow pointing to where the browser shows its prompt — up towards the address bar on computers, down towards the bottom of the screen on phones.
On phones, "Click" in the default message becomes "Tap". The guidance disappears as soon as the visitor allows or blocks notifications, or after a minute if they do nothing.
Turn it on or off
Prompt guidance is on by default for every placement.
- Go to Placements and click Edit on your placement.
- Open the Subscribe prompt tab.
- Switch prompt guidance on or off, and optionally change its title and message. Leave them empty to use the defaults.
- Click Save changes.
Good to know
- It only appears while the browser's own permission prompt is actually open, so visitors never see it by accident.
- It uses your soft-ask colors, so it matches the rest of your prompt.
- Visitors who have already allowed or blocked notifications never see it.
- Browsers without web push (such as Safari on iPhone and iPad) never show a permission prompt, so the guidance doesn't appear there either.
